Tonight was the first time playing with the Sunday crew since Fuckface won the election, so there was a bit of conversation around that up top as the players arrived. Sunday game got us through his first term, as well as the pandemic. I told them that I loved them all and we would get through whatever was coming, together. On to game…!
The players are 4th level PCs, as follows:
- BH is playing Villanelle, an elf Witch.
- JM is playing Aleira, a human Fighter.
- JD is playing Waylon, a human Rogue.
- JH is playing Litigar, a gnome Summoner.
- LL is playing Dr. Richard “Dick” Azzelon, a halfling Cleric.
- RF is playing Zahire, a human Thaumaturge.
Last game was pretty epic, the players had just raided a forest keep full of hobgoblins and found a whole lot of loot and intel. I had printed up a bunch of correspondence for them to read through, as well as a map, but they hadn’t really had time to go through any of it until tonight. So the first hour or so of game was them distributing loot and reading through the plans of the evil hobgoblins. It was really cool watching them put the pieces together of what’s going on and figure out what to do next.
They then realized that the hobgoblins were getting ready to march on the unsuspecting townsfolk, and that there was a large bridge that had some possible structural integrity issues that could be exploited (namely by a clutch Shatter spell that Villanelle could prepare the next day), so they took their rest and set out in the morning for Skull Gorge Bridge.
A few hours later they came across a large effigy that they correctly discerned was something used to denote a forest giant’s territory. A successful Perception check detected the smell of roasting meat not too far away, so they figured a giant must be nearby. They decided there wasn’t any time for side-quests and kept on moving for the bridge, thinking that they could pay the giant a visit on the way back.
Once they arrived at the bridge they saw that it was heavily fortified with enemy hobgoblins, hell hounds, and a fearsome looking young green dragon. It was at this point that they started to plan their next move, which would involve drinking an invisibility potion and sneaking up to the bridge to locate the weak spots, and figuring out how to do the most damage with the least amount of risk. They’re thinking about possibly weakening the bridge further in the hopes that it will collapse while the hobgoblins are crossing, which I hadn’t thought of!
We called it there, and we plan on meeting next weekend for their assault on Skull Gorge Bridge.
